Below is a calendar of Con Mi MADRE’s out-of-school activities. In addition to this list, staff meets bi-monthly at Con Mi MADRE’s targeted middle schools and monthly at Con Mi MADRE’s targeted high schools during the school day.

Fall Mother and Daughter Conference

Come and learn together. Theme of this conference is Girls Gearing up. Career speakers will focus on STEM careers.

Running to Raise Expectations

The running group meets once a week on Saturdays, beginning on September 3, 2011 at 8:00 am -9:30 am at Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs Road, followed with a free nutritional breakfast provided by Zen Restaurants.  The training exercises and running coaching is provided by Team Zen’s professional coaching staff. The focus of the running program is to get you moving so that you can stay fit, healthy and to set goals for a selected 5K race

Without Limits College and Career Fair

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Con Mi MADRE and the Austin Independent School District invite the entire community to a community-wide college and career fair in a partnership with , the City Of Austin and Austin Energy. This fully bilingual event is free and open to the public.  The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for Middle and High School Students to talk to professionals about different career options and to learn about different universities and colleges from across the nation.

Cooking & Nutrition Classes “Cooking for Your Life” by:Capital Area Food Bank-“CHOICES” Nutrition & Education Program

6:00pm-7:30pm

The first in a series of 4. Join us for this  hands on classes that train participants how to cook healthy foods, modify recipes and about basic kitchen safety.  This class will teach how to cook using whole grains, soy, fruits and vegetables, and vegetarian entrees.

College Campus Tour to San Angelo

November 11, 2011

Board the bus and visit  Angelo State University. This is a great opportunity to decide if you prefer a school that is small or if you are interested in being in a school that is large. Following the college tour, we will eat lunch at a local restaurant and spend the afternoon visiting shops on Concho Ave.  We encourage moms to attend. Buses leave at 6am.  This event is open to all Con Mi MADRE high school students and their moms with a priority given to 11th and 12th graders. Middle school student can attend if seats are available. .

We are Girls Conference

November 12, 2011

GENaustin’s We Are Girls Conference is a statewide annual conference that helps girls explore the issues of bullying, body image and being a girl. Topics addressed include bullying, cyber bullying, self image, dating, diversity, financial literacy, media literacy, parent-daughter relationships and physical health and wellness. The We Are Girls conference is a one-day event for girls in grades 5-12 and the adults who care about them. It connects individuals with questions to the experts who have the answers.

Con Mi MADRE has organized the Spanish-speaking track for this event.  As a sponsor of this event, Con Mi MADRE families are eligible to attend the conference for free.

Volunteer Opportunities

Con Mi MADRE Middle School students and their mothers are asked to complete 15 hours of volunteer service each year.  Con Mi MADRE High School students and their parents are asked to completed 20 hours of volunteer service. Placements will be available November 8, 2011.

College Campus Tour to Texas A&M Corpus Christi

February 17, 2012

Check out the Texas A&M University campus college in Corpus Christi.  This university sits on the beach! After the campus tour, the buses will  drop off mothers and daughters for a little bit of beach fun!  Buses leave at 6am.  This event is open to all Con Mi MADRE high school students and their moms with a priority given to 11th and 12th graders. Middle school students can attend if seats are available.

Career Conference on the Fine Arts and Creative Industries

Con Mi MADRE is partnering with Austin ISD Hispanic Futures Program for a Creative Arts Career Conference. Sessions will highlight the many different creative jobs that require a two or a four year degree.
