Eligibility Requirements

  • Hispanic female

• GPA of 2.5 (85) or higher

• Both student and mother commit to participate in the program (Under special circumstances, another adult can participate with the student.)

• Student self referrals who meet criteria above

Selection and Notification

After receiving the list of recommended students from each elementary school, a recruitment meeting is held for recommended students during the Spring semester of their 5th grade year. Students are given information about the program and application forms to complete with their mothers. Once these applications are completed and returned, Con Mi MADRE staff review the applications to determine the program participants’ eligibility for the program.

Con Mi MADRE offers open enrollment for all eligible Hispanic girls in the greater Austin area. If a slot becomes available during the school year, it is filled immediately from the standing wait list. The Program Director has the discretion to limit the number of student participants based on the availability of resources and support.

Program Retention

Students continue in the program as long as they meet the program’s good standing criteria. If a student changes schools the student may still participate in the program, regardless of services provided to that school.

Confidentiality

All information regarding students and their families shall be kept confidential among Con Mi MADRE staff. If a situation is disclosed in which a student is not safe or is going to be in an unsafe situation, the families, proper authorities, and the Program Director will be notified of the situation and course of action. This is explained in the Participant Handbook and is verbally explained at the first campus group meeting of the school year and during the first individual counseling session.
