“Being a first-generation Hispanic female, applying for college was a bit of a challenge. Although my parents were supportive of my efforts, they were limited in how they could help me through the college application process. This journey was new and unfamiliar for all of us and at times it was frustrating not having a guide. However I found reassuring guidance through the efforts of Con Mi MADRE. Their college-prep workshops showed me how to prepare for college as well as how to be successful at a university level. Con Mi MADRE exposed me to successful Hispanic Women to use as role models and mentors. Many of the presenters were women who had lived through the exact same situations I was facing, and I was able to draw from their experiences and gain the direction I was missing. Con Mi MADRE provided the support that my family, although willing, was unable to provide. This organization gave me the tools to not only get into college, but to also complete my education.I owe so much to this program and I hope that many other Hispanic girls can continue to experience this wonderful opportunity. I cannot even begin to thank Con Mi MADRE for molding me into the individual that I am today.”

“ I have been a member of Con Mi MADRE for six years, and throughout these years my mother and I have gained so much needed knowledge about college that did not exist within our family. I am going to be the first person in my family to ever attend college and one of the handful of people in my family who has actually graduated from high school. Con Mi MADRE has been like a stepping stone helping me to achieve my goal of attending college. If I ever had a question the ladies of Con Mi MADRE have always been there to answer me.Thanks to Con Mi MADRE and the events that were scheduled such as the conferences, volunteer projects, and college and career fairs, my mother and I got a better idea of what colleges were looking for in students. Without Con Mi Madre my parents and I would not have known the steps to take in order to enter college. I highly recommend Con Mi Madre to other Latina girls who are also new to the college application process and want a college education…”-Ashley
“I had aspirations to attend college and I needed some guidance, information, and advice. Con Mi MADRE offered a great wealth of information! It supplied my mother and me with the tools to guide us toward my college goal. My mother was the key to understanding and keeping up with the college entrance process. It was very hard for me to complete my senior year with several Advanced Placement courses and a part-time job and to meet submission deadlines for scholarships, essays, and applications. In middle school, I was very shy and unable to communicate my goals and aspirations. When I saw that a group of Latinas like me were searching for the same goal, I was inspired to kick my shyness for good and to go after my goal. I am very proud to report that I graduated from high school in May 2008 and that today I am a junior at the University of Texas majoring in Liberal Arts English. It is organizations like Con Mi MADRE that work outside the school setting to help students and involve parents on a one-on-one basis that make a real difference.”- Bianca
”You and your organization continue to do such an amazing job with these wonderful young women. I can remember when “Hispanic Mother Daughter Program” was just a fledgling. I was a counselor at Fulmore Middle School, and we had one of the first mentor programs in the district. Look at “Con Mi MADRE” now. You have touched and positively impacted so many young women and have certainly given them (and their moms) the tools that will continue to help them along the way towards higher education and a productive life.
I feel honored and privileged to have been associated with Con Mi MADRE.
Congratulations for having another stellar year!”
